Double Garage conversion to teenage den

What a fantastic project this turned out to be. A fully detached, double width, garage was converted into a large single room area with substantial storage, wall mounted TV, bench seating and a small kitchenette. Though no water or sewerage was connected, the main house is a step or two away. This project allows the teenage kids to get away from mum and have a large space to play, rest or entertain friends. For me this was my first conversion, yet a joy to undertake as it demanded significant carpentry and construction skills.

The beautiful finish hides substantial insulation and structures that make this a very well insulated room. There’s a 10mm raised floor, 50mm wall insulation - double that at the front where the original garage doors have been retained.

The addition of a side window brings much needed light into the room. This is supplemented by recessed ceiling Led lighting.

Mass storage has been created using double larder doors and bulk shelving. Though a loft hatch and ladder are included, loft storage is restricted due to the weak rafters that would result in cracking of the plastered ceiling.

Everyone who  sees the room are making very positive comments

I have many construction pictures available.

Every Den needs a TV and a snooker or football table, I found this table at the local tip. Brought it home and repaired it and no one noticed on the open day party!

The Sky connection and upgraded power were fed through to the garage to allow for the addition of heating and use of the house Sky dish.
